Yoga for Healing / trauma informed practices for empowerment + resilience

Our bodies have an amazing, innate ability to survive overwhelming circumstances. In fact, we are hard-wired for survival from birth. Our physical response to trauma and stress is instinctual; it just happens. Sometimes, that survival mechanism is so powerful that is stays turned "on" even after the threat or stress has passed. Other times, the stress is ongoing or chronic. This creates imbalance, or separation, between our mind, body and spirit. Residue of the trauma negatively affects thoughts, emotions, hormones, sleep patterns, immunity and relationships.

Yoga and mindfulness have been shown to positively impact these imbalances by activating the mechanisms that calm, soothe and re-integrate our mind and body.

This class includes gentle yoga poses, breathing and mindfulness exercises that ground and center the body. Practices will be offered as tools to build strength, flexibility and self awareness ( noticing sensation). Students are encouraged to move with curiosity vs. judgment, and make choices around what feels useful for them throughout the class.

The intention here is to hold space and empower individuals to reclaim their bodies and build a set of self care practices that support them on their path toward healing. Accessible to all levels, no yoga experience needed. Ages 17 and up

Goddess Awakened: Harnessing the Power of the Feminine

Divine feminine power, SHAKTI, is the very life force of the universe. We feel her spirit in our breath, our heartbeat, the fire of our strength and the impulses of our thoughts. She lies beyond gender and lives within us all as cosmic energy, the spark of true spiritual awakening.

Our external world often leaves us feeling disconnected from our true power and divinity.

Step into this magic space to reclaim your connection to SHAKTI. Class weaves story-telling, breathing and meditation into an all levels yoga practice accented with lush flowers, candle light and music to create an embodied sensory experience. The intention is that we tap into our Goddess energies and harness that power to create shifts and exist with grace and spirit on and off our yoga mats.

Trauma Informed Teaching Strategies for Yoga + Mindfulness

This training is for YOGA TEACHERS / TEACHER TRAINEES and includes a 60 minute trauma- informed practice. The two core components of this training are MIND-BODY CONNECTION + RESILIENCE.

Mind-Body Connection: you will learn the physiology + neuroscience of trauma. We explore its' impact on neurology, physical + energy bodies, emotional + mental health and attachment + relationships.

Resilience: you will learn how to support post traumatic growth within the boundaries of a yoga class offering. Specifically, we look at verbal cues, language, the power of choice, potential triggers, hands-on adjustments, specific asana/ movement, and tools for grounding + self-regulation. The goal is to cultivate awareness, compassion + a set of best practices that we can offer through a trauma informed lens in hopes to hold safe space for any student.

Led by Megan Davis, LISW-S, RYT/500. Megan has over 15 years of experience working as a school based therapist in inner city Cleveland. Since completing her first yoga teacher training in 2012, she has integrated yoga + mindfulness into her work with children, teens, families + women.
